Hi Jody!
I tested CQL with the cities layer, don't know if I am writing something wrong, attached a screenshot of the operation.
Regarding the bluemarble, it seems it is the only tiff I can not load in uDig... other tiff, also heavier than this, work fine.
I just noticed that in my data folder I have only one file for bluemarble, the .tiff. I tried to add the prj but nothing changed, do you have bluemarble.tiff and some other file related?
Here is the last part of my error_log file, if you need the whole file let me know, and I will send you privately.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps Silvia was testing CQL against like PostGIS
or some other datastore and is having trouble between CQL function list and SQL?
When you get a chance Silvia could you tell us exactly what you did when CQL did not work?
