Re: [udig-devel] walkthrough 1 - refractions postgis instance is unavailable

Good morning Emily:

I am going to have to assume that the user that reported this problem is stuck behind a firewall. I am also behind a firewall so I got a chance to look at the error message produced: "Connection paramters are invalid". I am going to look at replacing this error message with something along the lines of "Could not connect - please check your connection parameters and firewall".

I am going to try without the firewall in a moment and verify that the database is available.

With respect to database access and trunk. The database wizards were cleaned up at the code level; but need a couple rounds of QA. My understanding is developers have been entering the connection parameters; leaving the page; and returning to the page (or some similar crazy thing) in order to connect. It is something to note for the code sprint.

The PostGis instance www.refractions.net should be working now. I was able to connect to it and view data with udig v1.1; However I was not able to view the data using trunk. Trunk would connect to the database; however the wizard would not move to the next page where I can select the table to view.

uDig walkthrough 1 is looking good; so far the main problem is that the PostGIS instance at www.refractions.net is missing. I am not sure if it can be turned back on or not. Is this something anyone would be willing to host? Connecting to PostGIS is an important user story for walkthrough 1 to make.
