For some reason Enter doesn't seem to filter anything, the
promote button looks like it is moving the selected record to the top of the
list, but I still cant seem to filter the results based on any of the criteria
in the text box.  Do I need to add an '=' sign before the _expression_?
Or do I need quotes or regular _expression_ syntax?

thanks again,

You are supposed to press enter/return :) I think it would take to
long to filter on every keystroke but I could try it out I suppose.  BTW.
If you check of the check box all the features that match your criteria
will be selected otherwise only the first match is selected.  If you want
to see all the matches you can press the promote to top button.

Keep sending the questions.

  I
have a quick question about the table view in uDig, I am trying to filter the
data in the table (and on the screen) based on user specified criteria, but I
am confused as to how the dialog is supposed to work.  Is there a button
to apply the filter?  Or is there a special syntax for the filter string
  that we need to use?

  Here
is the feature I am referencing:
