Re: [tycho-user] Tycho Build with Eclipse Target includingGalileoBabel

Hi,

actually it's not specific to Tycho using an Eclipse Target Definition file. It also happens if I compose the Tycho Target Platform via a simple list of p2 repositories and include the babel feature as a whole. It seems like he wants to resolve all fragments of the babel feature. But I don't know why he fails with that. For example:

Unable to satisfy dependency from org.eclipse.babel.nls_eclipse_de.feature.group 3.5.0.v20111128114305 to org.eclipse.core.net.linux.x86.nl_de [3.5.0.v20111128114305].

The fragment org.eclipse.core.net.linux.x86.nl_de is actually in my p2 repository with this exact same version. And it's fragment host org.eclipse.core.net.linux.x86 is also in my eclipse Galileo p2 repository, with that exact same version. So why does Tycho fail to resolve this?

Does Tycho maybe build each target environment separately? Because in my console following is written:
[INFO] {osgi.ws=win32, osgi.os=win32, osgi.arch=x86, org.eclipse.update.install.features=true}
[ERROR] Cannot resolve project dependencies:

And then the errors come. Seems like he wants to resolve target for win32, which probably he does not include the linux stuff from babel, which then causes the Babel feature to fail?

it's probably related though:

the babel repo has some funky "enhanced" p2 metadata using optional deps and non-greediness [1] which may jeopardize dependency resolution

I'm not quite sure this is the same bug as you were facing a compilation error and Alexander is facing a resolution error.

Alex,
I'm not certain, but this sounds like a similar problem I asked about. The discussion starts here: http://dev.eclipse.org/mhonarc/lists/tycho-user/msg03901.html

Basically, it was a bug in 0.16 which has been addressed in 0.17. The related bug is here:

Hope this helps,

So I have the feature
 org.eclipse.babel.nls_eclipse_de.feature.group
within my target platform file.

I checked out the feature.xml and it for example says, that it contains a plugin called
  org.eclipse.core.net.linux.x86.nl_de

This plugin is the first unsatisfied dependency in above error message. However, the plugin really exists within my babel p2 repository. It's fragment host is
  org.eclipse.core.net.linux.x86

This fragment host exists in my Eclipse Galileo p2 repository, which is also part of the target definition file.

My target-platform-configuration looks like this:
      <plugin>
                                                           <groupId>org.eclipse.tycho</groupId>
                                                           <artifactId>target-platform-configuration</artifactId>
                                                           <version>${version.tycho}</version>

                                                                                         </environment>

                                                                                                       <ws>gtk</ws>
                                                                                                       <arch>x86</arch>
                                                                                         </environment>
                                                                                         <environment>
                                                                                                       <os>linux</os>
                                                                                                       <ws>gtk</ws>
                                                                                                       <arch>x86_64</arch>
                                                                                         </environment>
                                                                                         <environment>
                                                                                                       <os>macosx</os>
                                                                                                       <ws>cocoa</ws>
                                                                                                       <arch>x86_64</arch>
                                                                                        </environment>
                                                                          </environments>
                                                                          <format>yyyyMMdd-HHmm</format>
                                                           </configuration>
                                            </plugin>

And is extended in a child pom to use the PDE target definition file. So all these environments are included, too.

I have absolutely no idea what this error is all about ... using tycho 0.16 by the way.
