They want to get rid of all major issues before starting the 3.7 stream, and this one is the last major issue user face in 3.6.x.

If you're interested in the development of Maven in general, I suggest you follow the (interesting) dev@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx mailing-list where you can enjoy more details.

I think this story highlight a missed from Tycho: the https://ci.eclipse.org/tycho/job/tycho-build-with-maven-snapshots/ job should have caught this regression in 3.6.x before the release and should have it reported to Maven. But this job is/was missing the tycho-extras build+test. I'm trying to enable it right now.
