Greetings Committers!
Our April 2023 office hours will be held on Thursday, April
13 at 1330h GMT (0930 EDT).
Attendance at these sessions is optional. We use
the metaphor of "office hours": we set aside some time every
month to make the EMO team available to answer your questions
and discuss your concerns related to your responsibilities as
a committer. To keep things interesting, we start each session
with a short presentation on a topic that we believe will be
of interest to you as a committer.
We record the presentation portion of each session and post
that recording on the Eclipse Project Team's
Calendar page (recording of all
of our past session are there now). We do not record or minute
the Q&A portion (though we do open issues related to the
topics discussed). The calendar on the calendar page has
sharing links.
The seed topic for this discussion will be AI and
contribution, with the goal to starting a conversation about
what our policy/position should be with regard to how we deal
with contributions of content generated by an AI.
In a short presentation, I'll quickly walk through some
scenarios with an intention of seeding a discussion to solicit
your concerns, discuss things that we need to think about, and
discover what you think that we as a community should do to
support AI-assisted software development in open source.
Note that our current policy is that we do not accept
contributions generated by an AI as doing so is--at least--in
conflict with the ECA/DCO (note that an AI cannot sign the
ECA).
I hope that you can attend. Naturally, we'll open an issue
so that you can still have an opportunity to monitor and/or
participate in the discussion that follows.
As always, you can bring questions that are unrelated to
the seed topic to this session.
While I have your attention, if you have not already done
so, please complete the
Eclipse Committer Satisfaction Survey.
The survey should only take you about 15 minutes and it will
be open until April 28.
