[tracecompass-dev] New and Noteworthy April 2016

Hi,

See below for the New & Noteworthy and ongoing work of the Trace Compass project for April 2016.

New and Noteworthy:

  • Trace Compass release 1.2.1 bug fix release (see [1])
  • Trace Compass 2.0/Neon release track (see [2]):
    • Support per CPU filtering for the CPU usage view. The filtering can be triggered by using the '''Follow CPU''' menu item of context sensitive menu of the Resources view.
    • Support for searching in Time Graph views using CTRL+F keyboard short-cut. With this update, users have the ability to search for a process, TID, PTID, etc. within the Control Flow view or a CPU, IRQ etc within the Resource view.
    • Merged support for data-driven pattern analysis. With this it possible to define a pattern matching algorithm and populate Timing Analysis views.
    • Support for horizontal scrolling using Shift+MouseWheel in Time Graph views.
    • Improve analysis requirement implementation. LTTng UST Call Stack and Kernel CPU Usage analysis have been updated for that.
    • Added Kernel Memory Analysis with Memory Usage view.
    • Added input/output analysis and I/O Activity view for Linux
    • Added per CPU thread 0 modeling. Control Flow view have been updated for that.
    • LTTng Live trace reading support disabled for Neon due to bug 486728 [3].

Ongoing work:

  • Integration with LTTng Babeltrace Python analyses to be able to output the results of these external analyses into Trace Compass
  • Use symbol provider extension point for LTTng UST Callstack view and Source code lookup
  • Support LTTng v2.8 runtime in LTTng Control view (existing features only)
  • Support for switching between flat and hierarchical presentation of processes in Control Flow view
  • Support for visualization of traces analysis in experiments
  • Address segment store scalability
  • Support for collapse/expand all in Time Graph views
  • Data from a parallel dependent analysis may not be available (bug 488757 [4])
