As bug 431820 is now fixed up, I'm going to assume I'm ok to schedule the release review. The iplog has been through the review too.

thanks all,
Andy

Is it too late to change my approval?

This issue about objectweb.asm 5.0.1 has become more complex as we learned more, and it turns out we will likely make some change.

And, most important, we would not want the current version "released" into the wild as it has some potential to "interfere" with overall eco-system of those using bundles produced by the original third party distribution -- not a nice thing for Eclipse to do.

Hence, let's hold off on releasing Aspectj 1.8 until bug 431820 is resolved ... And AspectJ adjusted to include/provide the corrected bundles.

I guess there is a larger issue about if any project should be allowed to "release" without their Orbit dependency coming from an "R-build" of Orbit. There would still be potential for mistakes, but ... Orbit, like any project, needs time and iterations and community feedback to "get things right" and this serves as a good reminder of that. See bug 431820 for details and history.

+1 to the release.

Side issue, Andy, you might want to follow or "chime in" on this Orbit bug ...

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=431820
where there has been a request to "change the name" of objectweb.asm bundle id.
I don't think we will ... just wanted to make you aware.

Thanks, and good luck.

Hi,

Been a while since I've done this but I think this is the process.

I'd like to release an AspectJ 1.8.0 (now that Java8 is out) and am seeking approval for a release review.

AspectJ 1.8 is based on the recent ECJ for Java8 that is available as a patch on Eclipse 4.3.2.

I've attached the review materials and my iplog is here:

http://www.eclipse.org/projects/ip_log.php?projectid=tools.aspectj

The major iplog change is that we now include asm 5.0.1 since we need that for working with Java8 bytecode.

Hope that is all in order. If not, please let me know!

cheers,

Andy
