RE: [tools-pmc] Fw: Reviving the Visual Editor project

Yes, you can see that he's on an earlier note in the chain, but there's
been no response. I can only assume that folks are too busy on other
things to answer their notes. There seems to be a fair bit of interest in
VE from the community given the newsgroup traffic, but that just doesn't
equate to a desire actually contribute to it.

I don't know anything about NAB, but it's an interesting question...

I assume Joe Winchester is still the project lead. Has he been contacted
about this?

Aside from making sure everyone is in the loop. I?m all for new blood on
VE. Although the lack of interest from the community in VE has me worried
that it may not be the right solution for the problem.

I also wonder if there is any synergy to be had between VE and NAB (Native
Application Builder). NAB is more for native GUIs, but it would be
interesting to see if that could be expanded to include SWT and Swing. Just
a thought?

If the project is abandoned and there are reasonable people willing to
stand up and do work/maintenance then it is hard to complain.

Tools PMC Members,

The VE project appears to be in need of a kick start. The existing
committers are inactive, i.e., they do not response to notes, newsgroup
questions, nor do they incorporate contributed patches. A new set of
committers is needed. Philippe and Erik appear to be good candidates,
although I have yet to get an e-mail response from Erik to any of the notes
I've sent him whereas Philippe appears to be very responsive, so Philippe
appears to be the best candidate to lead the project.

What are your thoughts on this?

Ed, Phillippe, others,
List of committers:
By activity:

If you want to reboot the project, the Tools PMC should be the ones to
make that happen. I'm definitely in support of rebooting it with new
committers, so get the Tools PMC to advertise the fact to the larger
community and we'll go forward with it.
