Re: [threadx] About the safety deliverables of ThredX 6.1.1

A quick addition that the FAQs also state: "The functional safety artifacts [...] will be contributed by Microsoft to the Eclipse Foundation and will be made available royalty-free under an open license."

Hi Frédéric,
The fact that charging for the safety artifacts is being considered is very disappointing.  The big driver for us and many in the community to look at threadx is precisely the fact that it would be the first RTOS where such documentation is open as well.  With that taken away, the difference to other RTOSes with commercial safety collateral is unfortunately much reduced.  How about an option where the "full" initial version (most recent version with safety docs, as provided by Microsoft) is fully in the open but updates to the safety collateral going forward may imply fees?
Kind regards,

Hi Tamaki.

We are sorting out how and where the security artifacts will be distributed. Access will likely not be free at this point in our discussions since certification involves costs we need to offset. The procedure to obtain the documentation should be simple and will be explained in detail when everything is in place.

Dear ThredX member

I have a question about the release of ThreadX 6.1.1 safety artifacts.

We have heard that the safety deliverables are scheduled for release early next year.

I would like to know how you plan to provide them.

For example,

Will the -documentation be available free of charge or for a fee?

Is the procedure for obtaining the documentation complex or can it be downloaded freely from the EclipseFoundation site?

Best regards

Hi Tamaki.

Thank you for your interest in Eclipse ThreadX.

ThreadX is in a transition phase right now. It is not possible to obtain the documents at this time. We need some time to migrate the code on our side first, then deploy the infrastructure required to manage the safety requirements. On the way, we will have to adjust our existing processes or even produce new ones. Naturally, this will take some time.

When the documents are available, we will send an announcement on this mailing list. At this point in time, we think this will happen in the first months of 2024. This timeline could change, of course.

If your company desires to participate in the discussions about how the documents will be made available, it can join the Eclipse Foundation and the ThreadX interest group. This involves paying an annual fee. Just email me if you are interested.

Best Regards,
