At the moment, only trains can truly reverse. Reversal of other vehicles is an open enhancement request (https://github.com/eclipse-sumo/sumo/issues/15510).

You could still "cheat" by remote-controlling vehicle movements with traci.vehicle.moveTo or traci.vehicle.moveToXY
