Notes from the STEM Call on December 14, 2017
Welcome to Professor Shiyong Liu, systems engineer/economist from China, visiting IBM Almaden, plans to use STEM in a proposal to China’s National Science Foundation on road network, high speed trains; will be joining call when possible
Others on the call: Jamie, Stefan, Ahmad, Kun, Tekla, Emily, Nereyda, Judy
Next Call: Thursday, January 18, 2018 (Moved to third Thursday by consensus)
1. STEM 3.0.0 Milestone 5: Release to follow solution of problem with launcher on Mac
*Pending solution Ahmad is working on (see item 3); workaround available at
https://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/mv/msg/1084123/1753241/#msg_1753241
2. Updates
Emily: Setting the limit to 1000 gives an infinite rate; will post to wiki once finished testing. Still having trouble running batch experiments on windows 7; works on first batch but doesn’t work after initial run. Jamie: May be a windows security problem; he & Emily to try on windows 8 & 10 machines at home
Potential Solution: Write a windows batch script (batch file launch calls batch file to reiterate values); Emily to try, may enlist windows expert at her university
Nereyda: To present poster on 1/7/2018 at Transportation Research Board; release to stem website 1/8. One-page handout on STEM is ready for distribution; will incorporate Kun’s email input into explanation at the meeting
Tekla: Problem with model generator disappeared with Mac; persists with Windows, icon doesn’t show up; problem either in compilation or generator, should show in error log
Potential Solution: Post to stem-dev for assistance UPDATE: Tekla has posted description of problem, now available at stem-dev Digest, Vol 104, Issue 2
3. STEM Update
Ahmad: Experiencing dependency problem when working to update STEM. Has updated STEM platform, specified latest plug ins; can’t find newest version of Eclipse after version 4.4. Jamie: Eclipse bug? Complicated problem; other people aren’t finding the delta pack
Potential Solution: Ahmad will (1) send Jamie & Stefan an email with list of issues, allowing them to operate on same platform; (2) submit to Bugzilla as bug “New target platform” to forward to Eclipse master (also step to becoming an Eclipse committer)
4. Bugs: See item 3 above
5. Items from Participants
Emily: Vaccination runs with stochastic solver, isolation won’t. Jamie: Try build with deterministic solver, test to be sure it’s running, delete solver, and drag in stochastic solver; clear error log before each run, keep open. Stefan: No technical reason both functions (vaccination and isolation) shouldn’t work with stochastic solver
