STEM Community Call November 14, 2013

On Call: Jamie, Chris, Stefan, Werner, Judy

 

THERE WILL BE NO CALL THE NEXT WEEK, NOVEMBER 21, OR ON AMERICAN THANKSGIVING, NOVEMBER 28

THE NEXT CALL WILL BE ON DECEMBER 5, AT THE REGULAR TIME

 

1. STEM 2.0.1 planned for 12/11
2.0 is now available
All downloadable scenarios have been migrated (thanks, Stefan)

TO DO: Stefan will check that mega data has been updated

 

Jamie: Matt encountered stalling when step size got small; what causes step size to go so small?

Chris: Has some triggers – pigs and pork in certain regions

Jamie: Mixing infectious population w/ large population may yield a non-steady state

Chris: Not the typical scenario – problem w/ flow of commodities

TO DO: Chris will ask Alex to check his scenario to see if problem there

TO DO: Jamie will check doc for current finite different solver, need to alert users to threshold; may rename solver

2. New Documentation for 2.0.1
 Jamie: Probably no new demos for 2.0.1; will keep wish list for future
       
3. Bug(s) of the week:
400930 Deleting a graph makes models/scenario useless. NOT A BUG. DEFFERED

TO DO: Chris will study, make recommendations on how to handle, then place on agenda for discussion
409742 Mercator Map Logger does not export images with black borders. DEFERRED

TO DO: Jamie will check w/ Matt
368889 For M5: Enable stochastic simulations for older disease models. DONE W/ ONE EXCEPTION

TO DO: Dengue. DEFERRED UNTIL KUN RETURNS

                                     
4. Feature Requests                                      
Generalize Predicate to read discrete events from a file based a schedule (Matthias)

Not to be addressed immediately

5. Items from Participants

Werner: Has upcoming call w/ Science WG; some opportunities w/ the group; will be in CA 1/24/2014

Chris: Did STEM paper in Germany, attended  Science WG, talked about what from STEM can be reused, suggested geographic info

Stefan: STEM listed on wikipage for Science WG

Chris: Met Wayne Lee in person; Wayne commended STEM for its good release management

Judy: Finishing reference checks, etc. for ICSE paper, will have to Stefan no later than tomorrow, 11/15; submission date is 11/22; Stefan will submit 

Jamie & Stefan: May decide to submit for EclipseCon (due in 2 days, would reuse) 

Jamie: Had call w/ Gates Foundation, others re possible work on tsetse fly & sleeping sickness; Liverpool & Oxford working on this; may be an opportunity for STEM to be involved

Jamie: Have made 5 minute video for ICSE paper, is on YouTube; not as good as 10 minute version
