STEM Community Call April 26, 2012

On Call: Jamie, Stefan, Matt, Kun, Chris, Alex, Werner, Judy  

 

1. 1.3.1 Release V1.3.1 RC4 (Graph editor fixes from Chris)

Discussion: Extensive testing (thanks to Chris, Alex) reveals bugs pre-release; in future, include release # in bug, indicate whether severe enough to block release

Decision: Delay release one week

TODO: Matt to put up RC5 today [merge fixes, priority changes (rainbow colors, binomial distribution)]

TODO: All check for side effects this week 

 

NEW RELEASE DATE: FRIDAY 5/4  

TODO: Change date, note updates on wiki what's new page, also plan page

       

2. 1.4.0 Release Plan (tentative 9/25/2012)  

Need to update plan page (and title)

TODO: Once a month, discuss 1.4.0 milestones during call

 

Elements will include:

    Performance improvements

    Simplified creation of new Disease and Population models (Tools for generating new disease plugins)

    Pajek-file Importer:

        Enable import of discrete transportation events

        Enable integration between user graphs and existing STEM graphs

    Polio Example

    Stochastic Modeling Framework

    Ability to Delete Items inside a Graph from Designer Perspective

    Deep copy drag and drop for models

    Refactor

    Create new mixing edges (Chris to put edges back, Jamie to do generator)

    Improved UI for Decorators View

                  

3. New doc for 1.4.0

* wiki practice    

* Best Practice for Developers, writing performance critical components in STEM (in progress)

* Additional doc for food SCENARIO doc, top level food modeling doc (in progress, drafts created)

 

4. Food production discussion

TODO: Chris to send Jamie graphics (German text)

 

5. ISVEE2012 posters

Both Alamaden and BfR proposals accepted

TODO: Try to coordinate presentations (posters co-located?)

 

6. Update on JET. No progress to report (Matt)

 

7. Bugs of the week

Jamie: Many found during testing

TODO: Include release #, assessment as to criticality in the bug posting

BUG 376149: Matt will send suggestions to Chris and Alex via stem-dev (e.g., don’t need to draw borders each time; fix a value to decide if polygon is redrawn; have reduced time from 700 millisecs to 80; not in release; a performance thing

 

8. Items from participants

Werner: Events in Poland (machine learning?), Copenhagen (ehealth); will network

Kun: Implementing periodic population model

Alex: User preferences to limit what’s shown, what’s not? Jamie: Summer student @ Almaden will look at user preferences

Chris: Re Berlin on STEM mainpage, wiki; Jamie: Can add changes in trunk

Judy: Finishing up malaria submission

Jamie: Two lists of downloadable scenarios on web; should have only one; TODO: Stefan will fix
