[stellation-res] Repository with Stellation
|
Dear all,
I am newbie in Stellation and Eclipse.
I have looked around and try to connect to the users newsgroup, but
seems that at my workplace we dont have access to your newsgroup. I hope
my question is not too off-topic.
I am an intern in a small group in an R&D Company. Before I arrived
here, People were using Windows as a server platform and Visual Age as
repository and IDE environment for developing java, mainly servlets,
accessed by jsps.
When I arrived because of my linux background, my colleagues decided to
start to use GNU/GPL at the same time we were starting to work with
J2EE. From this decission we started to work with Jboss, Apache/tomcat,
etc.
Because We wanted to do the migration proccess more smoothly, we
decided not to change the developing environment by now. It was just a
big change for my colleagues to start to work with Linux, so the
learning curve would have been too much.
Now that we have the first release of our project, we have decided to
start the migration of the development environment, and after looking
around, we decided to choose Eclipse.
After looking around the Eclipse website I saw the project of
Stellation, and because I think CVS doesnt fit our requirements, and I
have decided to look your project more carefully. I cant figure out
which is the current status of the project and If I could use in the
scenario I have mentioned.
The main features We would need are:
- A stable SCM similar to Visual Age in features. We wouldnt need a
compiler like Ant, because We would use the one in Eclipse.
- Support for Oracle or PostgreSQL (preferable Oracle).
- Besides any documentation for a newbie in Stellation and CVS and how
to install one system for production and Red Hat Linux.
If the current status of the project is stable enough, I think It would
a nice idea to have a mailing list for the people that cant use news.
Many thanks in advance, and sorry for the off-topic and my English.
Regards
Miguel
