Re: [stellation-res] Question About the Eclipse Client
|
Hi Jeffrey,
Thanks for the bug report.
It may well be just a version mismatch: the 0.0.6 client build dates from
December 19 (just before I went on vacation), and I believe there were some
subsequent server changes. I will update the client build (probably tomorrow;
there's a paper deadline today) and see if I have any problems; then
perhaps you
can try the new (0.0.7) client and see if that resolves the issue.
BTW - I am in the middle of totally revamping the Eclipse client. The
current client depends on the command-line client for much of its
functionality; this was a short-term kludge with many known limitations, and
we need to move beyond it as soon as possible. Once the new ('model2') client
middleware is done, it'll be time to start overhauling the client UI and
features.
FYI, the goals of the new API include:
* providing a more Eclipse-friendly interface for Stellation,
using Eclipse platform APIs wherever sensible.
* supporting simple, direct interaction with Stellation
repositories and branch images (the current kludge
requires indirect access through portions of
the Stellation svc command-line client).
* providing groundwork for future use of fine-grained aggregates
* preventing ongoing changes in workspace code from
rippling the Eclipse client code.
* improving performance (the current kludge requires firing
up a new JVM and opening/closing a Stellation svc
workspace every time a high-level Stellation service
is requested.
If you're curious, the list archive contains various posts on this topic in
the September-October timeframe. The code itself (still a work-in-progress) is
in the org.eclipse.stellation.scm.model plugin project, in the package
org.eclipse.stellation.scm.model2.
Regards,
Jim

Hi there,
I ran into an exception this morning while trying to check in to the
repository. The setup is that I'm using Eclipse with the Eclipse
client feature (version 0.0.6, as from the downloads page). The
client is working against a Stellation server running on a different
host. That server is the 1/3/2003 build.
