Personally, I rarely have problems with linux; I find getting anything
set up right on windows to be impossible frustrating and difficult. I
suspect it really comes down to what you're used to: I used to work
as a sysadmin, so I know a lot of unix administration; windows, on the
other hand, has always been an impossible to deal with mystery to me.
My current problems are caused by the fact that I'm using a broken
linux installation. The local watson admin group put together their
own version of Linux, which contains a bunch of local customizations.
I decided to give it a shot. I'm both amazed and appalled that anyone
could manage to break so many things; from the network configuration,
to timezones, to paths, to X configurations, to fonts, to as yet
unexplained random lockups. It's simply astonishing how thoroughly they
managed to take RedHat 7.3, which is a pretty solid stable distro, and
methodically break just about *everything* in the course of customizing
it. Nothing works right - *nothing*.
Anyway... If you're having linux administration problems, feel free
to consult me off-list. I'm happy to try to help out, and I usually
know what I'm doing :-).
