The board might agree; I wouldn't.
The deal that we made with the Eclipse folks is that they'll give us
our own server. It'll be an Intel server box, with web and ftp servers,
and I'll be administering it. I need to do all of the work to
keep it going, safe and secure.
I've looked at things like SourceForge and Collab.net in the past.
They have *huge* administrative loads. There's no way that I can handle
that, and still do my real job.
I'm planning to install some kind of decent PHP based CMS, which
include some kind of forum software, with the ability to post articles,
and handle followup threads. Between that and BugZilla, we should be
able to use that to do a passable job.
Honestly, I think that BugZilla is completely capable of what we're
discussing here. We just haven't done a very good job of taking
advantage of what it can do. I think we should start there; I think
it'll be much more effective than a static HTML page.
Once we move to our server, and run a CMS system with forums, we
can try migrating into the forums if bugzilla isn't adequate.
