To tell the truth, I like the svc better, but for other reasons, I don't
want to use it.

Dave and Jim have heard my rant on this subject too many times,
so I'll keep it short.

svc is nice as a command name, because of the way that it puns on cvs.
But it gives the wrong impression. In the software engineering research
community, version control implies old fashioned single-file based
versioning systems like RCS. Software configuration management (SCM)
or versioning and configuration management (VCM) are generally used
for advanced systems that provide things like project versioning,
changesets, etc. I don't want svc, which expands out to "stellation
version control" to become the dominant way of referring to the system.

So, if we want to go with your icons, the S is preferable. But something
about the S icon seems out of balance. I can't put my finger on why, but
the svc icon has a nice balance to it; the S icon looks lopsided.

On the other hand... I think the starburst logo in blue looks very good
if you just pull out the S. (I've attached a copy of it at 64x64.)
