Re: [science-pmc] Catch up sometime?

I agree with Philip that it is something worth discussing. I've spoken to some folks and received good advice from the EMO about it as well.

The issue is that most of our PMC members have moved on to other jobs or retired and, thus, we have very little participation at the PMC level. Only Philip, Stefan, and me are still active on Eclipse projects as PMC members.

I don't mind having a PMC or retiring it and going back to Technology or wherever makes sense. The question is what can we do to get the level or service that the remaining projects need. Or are we already meeting the needs of our active projects sufficiently?

I propose lightly discussing this topic to see what folks are thinking and if we have enough interest to keep our own PMC. It was very hard to create the top-level project and PMC, so we should be thoughtful, somewhat reluctant, and careful in considering its retirement, but we should discuss it.

I think we should precede that discussion by looking at which science projects are dead and recommend those projects for retirement. This will let us focus on the projects that are still going, and those projects likely have people who could help with PMC duties.

Finally, I'll add that we are more active at the project level than it appears with about 50-125 commits per month. See here:

Hi Alex,

as there is almost no one left in the Science PMC, it's probably hard
to maintain the WG.

Best,
Philip
