I assume that those private keys are themselves used for encrypted communication, right?

FWIW, there's nothing necessarily wrong with that, we just need to keep track of it.

among all features 3.5 aims to decode PKCS1 private keys which are not encrypted, i.e they are just encoded in a different format than what Java supports.
