Re: [ptp-user] Help with PTP & RSE and remote c project -- Please help
|
Hi Beth,
Sorry it took so long,
I did get it installed but couldn't get to the point of creating a remote project.
-g
These are my issues:
1) garym@opensolaris:~$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_13"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_13-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 11.3-b02, mixed mode)
2) Installs OK, no problems
3) Connect OK
Issue 1:
Browse My Processes
Server running on: opensolaris
java.lang.Exception: No handler for this system type

Issue 2:
While Creating a project a dialog pops up:
An internal error occurred during: "Periodic workspace save.".
java.lang.NullPointerException
Issue 3 -Create Project Dialog:
An old remote project deleted on the remote cannot be deleted from the workspace.
Issue 4 -Create Project Dialog:
Once an duplicate project name is typed, the " A project with that name already exists in the workspace." message appears and cannot be cleared until the Create Project Dialog is close. This prevents incremental naming ie Project, Project1, Project2, etc..
Issue 5 -Create Project Dialog:
The remote selected project directory never reaches the "next" or "finish" state, Remote projects cannot be created.

I know its tough getting all the parts to play when your close to the release date. Each day is *interesting*.
Today is thursday, are you going to get the PLDT code checked in for monday's daily (weekly) ?
I'll run through the procedure, give me a few minutes..

Hi Gary,
Sorry you are having trouble. Galileo (Eclipse 3.5 including CDT 6.0) is about to be released, so you are on the bleeding edge of all these pieces. Blood is lessening since the final builds should now be stable.
PTP 3.0 relies on Eclipse 3.5 and CDT 6.0 so we are tracking them.
Some of PLDT 3.0 (analysis part of PTP) might not be updated exactly right (I can see by some of your error messages that this is the case for some of PLDT, esp. UPC support, cdt pre-reqs and pldt versions are not fixed yet). However I didn't *think* that would break anything. yet.
I will try to get that (pldt) updated this week.
Let's make sure your base eclipse installation is ok...
I started writing instructions here but decided to start updating the 3.0 release notes here:
http://wiki.eclipse.org/PTP/release_notes/3.0
So try that and let us know how you fare.

Hi Greg,
Thanks for following up.
Followed your instructions, tried RSE 3.1RC4 and nightly Version: 3.1.0.N20090615-0100-7L5A78OqaCDxE64pJ4RSh6Isr9n3 Build id: N20090615-0100
Each have the same problem it can't find the ui component and the build still does nothing, I'm thinking the build event its not hooked in. Maybe because the problem with the bundle.
Good news, no exceptions on the server :)
It looks like your internal SDKs are significantly different from the released code and the nightly builds on the site. If your putting out nightly builds someone has to be using them and has an sdk build that works.

It looks like the RSE 3.1RC4 zip doesn't include an update site. You can't install plugins by unzipping them into the Eclipse installation directory any more, so I'd say this is the cause of your problems with RSE. You need to unzip them into the "dropins" directory that is in the Eclipse installation directory instead.
Once you have RSE installed, download the latest CDT zip file from http://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/builds/6.0.0 and install it as an archive using the update manager.
You should be able to download the latest PTP build and install it as an archive at this point.
Let me know if you still have problems.

Greg

Hi Vivian,
I tried the install, it worked :) :) , stuff is still very broken. I'll walk you though my procedure
1) Downloaded 3.1 RC4
2) Attempted to load as a site, the 3.1 RC4 does not install as a site. The files need to be copied into the eclipse directory
3) Started eclipse, eclipse 3.5 doesn't like 3.1 RC4, it complains about the views not being able to be saved. There is no remote explorer view !!! I think the install is not well.
4) I could open the remote cdt project, (asked for password) I still cannot remote build or or launch gcc scanner. The build does not execute or offer any warning messages.
NOTE: the remote server shows no exceptions at this point :)
5) Loaded RSE 3.0. shutdown
6) Copied 3.1 RC4 back into eclipse
7) Started and opened a remote explorer view. It worked this time, but I think it was the 3.0 version.
8) I could open the remote cdt project, (asked for password) I still cannot remote build or or launch gcc scanner.
9) Using the remote explored I attempted to view the processes, exceptions on the server popped up immediately.
Summary:
PTP doesn't install with the released galileo cdt download, the generic galileo is needed and cdt-master-6.0.0-I200906151036 needs to be installed manually
The newest version of rtd server build I200906021621, seems much better behaved than earlier versions under opensolaris, although the perl daemon is broken
Enumerating the processes with the 3.0 remote explorer causes rtd server to throw execeptions
RSE 3.1 RC4 download doesn't install properly and not working with eclipse 3.5. The zip file is not a "site" file
None of the versions of RSE can execute the gcc compiler on opensolaris. The build does not execute or offer any warning messages.
I'm in not much better position now than when I started 11 hrs ago, except a bit more frustrated.
Personal comments:
I do not believe I have the build configuration correct for opensolaris. Is there a way for the build to execute via ssh or rconsole ?
thanks for all your support.

Hi Greg,
You better hold off on looking into this, it may be a non-issue or "operator error" problem.
I just tried the download and install the latest master ptp package. I just realized the install failed., I looked at the logs to find out. BTW, there was NO WARNING MESSAGE to tell me the install failed, only a reboot dialog for the"changes" to take effect.
I'm on stuck with ppt looking for upc 5.0.0 from cdt. Which version of cdt are you using ? I have CDT Version: 6.0.0.200906081036 Build id: 200906081036
BTW, the latest on the cdt web site is 03.18.2009. the one I have appears to be a later build.
Sorry for the confusion.

Hi,
I'm new to ptp and remote building on cdt. Please be patient.. I'm probably doing something wrong
I'm having some issues with properly connecting to the target, creating a remote project and getting the project to build.
I installed rdt-server-unix-1.0.tar on an opensolaris 113a
I installed ptp version 2.1.2.200905110828 and cdt version 5.0.2.200902130801 on Ganymede 3.4.2
I can execute the remote server software (./server.sh 4033)
And I can connect to the server with RSE.
However, when connected, there are some java errors on the remote server:
java.lang.

I'm assuming this is normal ??
Second issue, the My Home filter was empty, I needed to delete it and recreate it. Is this normal ?
Third, I try to create a remote c or c+ project, I'm a little confused on exactly what I should do or if the steps I'm taking are correct.
1) I enter a project name.
2) The Dialog says create a new c/c++ project, but the project type only displays "Empty Project" I this correct ?
3) The Tool chain selected is solaris gcc (this looks right).
4) Project location gives me 3 options, local (not the correct setting for me), RSE and Remote Tools. I'm assuming I should be using RSE. I'm not sure if it should be Remote Tools.
5) I select a folder on the remote system from the "my Home" filter
6) Validate the Solaris GCC on the next dialog,
7) Configure the builds and Indexing services to RDT/RSE and Remote Indexing to the server, Hit ok
8) I gety a message to override the project settings, I hit ok.
9) I eclipse displays an error dialog box::
"C/C++ Indexer has encountered a problem"
An internal error occured during "C/C++ Indexer"
java.language.NullPointerException
9a) The problem view gives me 2 messages:
Description Resource Path Location Type
Error launching external scanner info generator (g++ -E -P -v -dD C:/Users/xxxx.xxxxxxx/workspace/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.cdt.make.core/specs.cpp) hinge Unknown C/C++ Problem

xxx/workspace/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.cdt.make.core/specs.cpp) hinge Unknown C/C++ Problem
9b) The log file error is:

10) I select the project explorer view and create 2 folders; src and Debug. Both show on the RSE view as directories under the directory selected for the project.
11) I, the project explorer view, I create c source file by right click and selecing new c source file from the popup menu
12) the dialog displays and has the correct path to the "src" folder.
13) The file is created, an Indesxer waring message is again displyed, and the file can be seen in the RSE view. However, the file does not show up in the project !!!
14) I refresh the project view, the expand arrow shows for the src folder, but when clicked, it disappears.
15) I try bulding, no action is noted. Probably no files in the project view.
16) I can compile from the RSE view, but recieve this error message in the remote shell view:
/root>cd /export/home/xxxx/Workspace/src
cd /export/home/xxxx/Workspace/src
gcc -c main.c -o main.o
-l: bad option(s)
> Shell Completed (exit code = 1)
17) The compile from the RSE view only seems to execute once.
Ok, What am I doing wrong ?? Dids I forget to configure something ? Please help !!!
Best Regards
