Re: [platform-vision] Minimum Java version for Mars+1?

This should be left to the projects, which can raise the BREE when needed, and the EPP providers who best know whether their package really needs Java 8. See https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=423734 for lots of pros and cons of using the latest JRE version.

There are other JREs around, not just Oracle. Also, those who move to Java 8 drop support Solaris 32-bit.

Hi,

The Oracle support for Java 7 ends in a few months.

To modernize the Eclipse source basic (which I think would make Eclipse more attract new contributors) I would like to see Java 8 as minimum requirement for Eclipse Mars+1.

What do people think about this?

Best regards, Lars
