[platform-vcm-dev] VCM 2.0 initial work released to dev.eclipse.org!

VCM 2.0: New name, new architecture, new technology.

Hello all,

The VCM team is very excited to announce that we've released an initial
view of the 2.0 targeted new work. This is the first step along the road
as described on the VCM team page (http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/%7Echeckout%7E/platform-vcm-home/main.html).

There are a few things to note:

1. This work is very young. We've released it in order to gather feedback
and participation from the community. We expect it will undergo
significant change. It will not be going into builds until we've achieved
the appropriate stabilization level.

2. VCM has a new name! The component is now called "Team Support" (or
just "Team"). This will align the component name with the menus and
documentation released in 1.0. In addition, it signifies that this is a
substantial departure from the 1.0 work. And lets face it, nobody knew
what "VCM" stood for anyway. In time the component page and mail list
will be updated to reflect this new name.

3. From hereon, all VCM related discussions will now take place in the VCM
newsgroup.

We will soon be posting additional information on our component team page.
In the interim, you can find our new work in the following projects:

org.eclipse.team.core
org.eclipse.team.cvs.core
org.eclipse.team.cvs.ui
org.eclipse.team.cvs.ssh
org.eclipse.team.examples.core
org.eclipse.team.examples.ui
org.eclipse.team.ui

There is additional documentation released in the
org.eclipse.team.examples. We've included two examples, a Remote File
System provider, and a non-versioning DAV provider. The file system
provider is mostly working, and we expect to have the DAV example working
very soon.

We've also released an initial cut of our CVS client based on the 2.0
archicture. Check it out!

The "Team" team
