RE: [platform-update-dev] Updating a Linux/Motif platform to Linu x/Gtk

Agreed. I am attempting the update as the superuser.

don't match your "current" environment.

This is the first step I took at attempting to install the GTK platform. I
can see the GTK specific features available to install (these features have
the 'install' button enabled).

> If you can see them shouldn't you be able to install them?

I thought so as well, but it turned out to not be the case. Whenever I
attempt to install the 'Eclipse Project SDK (Linux GTK) 2.0.2' I get the
following errors:

- Eclipse Project SDK (Linux GTK) (2.0.2): Feature windowing system does not
match current environment.
- Eclipse Platform SDK (Linux GTK) (2.0.2): Feature windowing system does
not match current environment.
- Eclipse Platform (Linux GTK) (2.0.2): Feature windowing system does not
match current environment.

Of note is that I get the same errors, if I attempt to install a very
incompatible 'Windows' specific Eclipse feature. I am suspecting that
Eclipse doesn't differentiate between X based windowing tookits (many can be
hosted on one Linux/Unix platform) and OS specific windowing toolkits (Win32
cannot run on Linux).

Thanks for your help.

Linux/Gtk

Only one can exist at a time per process. Linux is a multi-user /
multi-process OS. One user could be using the gtk version and another the
motif version. The libraries are just in different fragments. They should
and I think are designed to coexist.

Assuming that is correct. Then a "root" user should be able to download the
GTK version of the libraries. The "Show Matching Features" menu allows you
to see those features that don't match your "current" environment. If you
can see them shouldn't you be able to install them?

If the GTK version becomes supported there is a good chance WSAD "may"
support it as well in that case we would potentially allow both versions to
be installed into the same tree. There is the issue of the launcher of
course but outside of that they should both work depending on which -ws
switch is used.

I think not. Linux Motif and Linux GTK drivers have different libraries and
only one SWT can exist at a time.

Is it possible to update a Linux/Motif Eclipse SDK to a Linux/GTK Eclipse
SDK?

From the Install/Update perspective, I get the following error whenever I
attempt to install a GTK related feature.

"Feature windowing system does not match current environment"

Thanks.
