This is not specific to Eclipse platform. It's a general Java anti-pattern to use URL class for adresses if you aren't sure you'll use it for a connection.
"Linters" like SpotBugs or SonarLint help by reminding this rule whenever there is a questionable usage of URL.

is down, and I wasn't able to find information on this anywhere else.
I have a distinct memory of an EclipseCon talk about avoiding either URL or URI, because it triggered network requests and was slow.Â I can't find it, or any reference to it.Â Does anyone else remember this, or have any hints for how to find it?
