This is because carbon.macosx was dropped
from the list of supported platforms.  Because that platform wasn't
built, a version number was not inserted into the feature.xml and remains
'0.0.0'.  The previous release did include that platform and so has
a real version number.

The org.eclipse.equinox.executable feature
includes all platforms provided by equinox even if the SDK itself does
not ship there because this feature allows users to targets those extra
platforms in their builds using PDE/Build.

I cannot make sense of the compare error
report at http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops/I20110712-0800/testresults/versiontool/results.xml

It says that "The version "0.0.0"
of plugin "org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.carbon.macosx".  But
if I download the build the launcher fragmetn for carbon.macosx is 1.1.100.v20110711-1243.
 Do you know what is going on here?

The comparator complains. It looks like the the newest code wasn't taken
from Git or needs to be re-tagged.
