Re: [platform-dev] [cross-project-issues-dev] CVS support plugin discontinuation

Hello folks,

I am reaching out to you because I may need to take this on. But before I do I want to confirm a couple of things:

- Can the CVS features be released as needed and live in their own p2 site going forward and that p2 site contribute to SimRel?
- Can the Platform team still "host" the features/git repo/p2 site for them? (As opposed to having to spin up a new project?)

I think my options are to:
1) either split CVS features out of the repo[1] and fixup the build/etc so that it can build independently
2) create a mirror of the CVS features of the last release and host that somewhere internal
3) simply tell users to point at old release p2 sites to install CVS into their newer Eclipse.

The advantage of (1) is that, if needed, future fixes can actually be done - and done in the open source easily, but that would require a Yes to my two questions.

Thanks
Jonah

Hey everyone,
CVS is dead technology but we still lose precious releng time in making sure versions are changed so it's updated clean from previous release, useless bits are still built on every patch review, tests are not run and so on. All that for nothing as we don't know whether there is any user left and whether the plugin is even still functional.

With all that said, Eclipse TLP PMC is planning to have 4.22/2021-12 release be the last one containing CVS support . It's a standalone feature not included in Eclipse SDK  nor in any EPP (AFAIK) thus it shouldn't affect many people (if anyone!). Being standalone, building it separately  should be easy in case anyone is willing to preserve it.
If you're still using CVS and depend on this plugin availability please raise your voice now and contact us on platform-dev@xxxxxxxxxxx to plan and organize the split of CVS feature and you taking over release duties for it.
