I talked with Curtis about the nomination and we thought it is the correct approach to nominate Peter before accepting a contribution which we cannot maintain, but I agree with your analysis Dani and John that Peter should contribute first to the existing code base.

I agree with John here.
It is really great news that Peter wants to contribute towards the DS component
in PDE on a longer term, and I definitely look forward to those contributions!
On the other hand, this nomination came a bit too early. According to the
Eclipse
Development Process's Committers and Contributors sectionand
the Guidelines
for Nominating and Electing a New Committerthe
most important criteria is that the candidate has built trust among the
current committers. In this case the nomination is based on a single Gerrit
change which does not even
have a code-review +1 from a committer, and there are no other commits
over the past several years (there were two commits in 2008).
I would like to ask to withdraw this election and have Peter earn his commit
rights like everyone else did before. If his big change makes it into the
code base, and he follows the community for few weeks, we can restart the
vote based on the trust we gained.
