Re: [pde-dev] Launcher Improvements

Hi Gunnar,

PDE committer time is in short supply, only Ankur and myself are actively committing.  As we have major work items pending in API Tooling I would expect it to be difficult to review your work in M4.  M5 might be a possibility.

For product launching, there is the additional concern that neither Ankur or myself are familiar with developing products/product configurations.  It would make a big difference if some members from the PDE community who are more familiar with the product world could review and test your work.

I know you already had some work done on launching without core.runtime and improvements to the headless tests.  I will do my best to review them for 3.7.

Hi PDE Team,

There are some patches around in order to improve the launch story for
headless applications. I'd like to work on those in order to get (some
of) them into 3.7 (preferably M4 or M5).

Do you think that's possible?

If yes, what's your preferred choice? A set of smaller patches attached
to individual issues or a larger, consolidated patch? Of course, the
latter would be easier to develop than smaller individual patches.

What would be a deadline to get such a patch submitted for early
feedback/final review?

As for the patch content:

- better support for launching products (as discussed in bug 326059)
- improvements during validation (eg. included features, non-patching
platforms)
- support for launching apps when core.runtime bundle is not present in
target platform (bug 315061, 314619)
- headless JUnit plug-in tests (bug 311979)

Are there other items you'd like to see included in such a patch?

-Gunnar
