Re: [paho-dev] Vote for Committer status for Nicholas O\'Leary was started by Scott de Deugd

AFAICT, Nick is not listed as an author on the initial contribution (CQ 5752) of the Java Client.

I assume that the author statement on the CQ is incorrect. I don't think that this is necessarily a problem as the copyright is held by Nick's employer, IBM.

However, before we can make Nick a committer, we need some public record of his contribution as a demonstration of merit.

If we can reasonably state that Nick authored some significant portion of the Java Client, included as part of CQ 5752, then that should be enough of a demonstration to get approval from the Technology PMC. It would be helpful if some specific bits of code can be explicitly cited (e.g. specific bundles/packages/classes that Nick authored).

With three days to go, we still need two more votes from the project committers or this entire conversation will become moot. Is there something else holding up the voting?

Hi Ian,

Is there a particular reason why your fixes have not been picked up?
as far as I know, there is no reason on the technical side for my
fixes to not have been picked up and committed to the code.

As has been noted, Paho suffers from a general lack of activity on the
bugzilla front; the reports are piling up. One of the reasons I
decided to pursue committer status was to try to help get things
moving.

Nick

Yes, I wrote the Java client, but I left the team in IBM that Dave and
Ian are in before the donation was made.

On the bug front, here are a couple bugs I've raised and provided fixes for:
 https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=385226
 https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=384866 - an example of
a timing window that my intimate knowledge of the threading model of
the client made easy to identify.

although assigned, the fixes have not yet been picked up.

Nick
