Re: [p2-dev] [Mirror] Deciding on argument for bug 254747

We should keep the discussion in the bug report so things don't get lost.  I added another comment there...

I don't really know what discussion went on before but it seems to me that if we're going to implement this "mode argument" just for cleaning the repository then we should change most of the other arguments to be consistent.

However then I see people typing things like "eclipse.exe -application <mirror app> -source <source> -destination <destination> -mode clean -mode raw -more ignoreErrors -mode verbose (and so on)" which seems a bit off.

That said, I could be completely misinformed. Would you happen to know where I can read the previous discussion on binary arguments?

I have not seen any arguments against the -mode suggestion in
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=254747#c19

As mentioned there, we have long since recognized the drawbacks of binary arguments and properties.

That is my vote.

I'm sorry to send this to the mailing list but this little problem has had me stumped for a bit and I was hopping to get some input so we can finally get it closed.

Right now I like "-cleanContent". I think it unmistakably says that it's the content that will be removed and not the settings. However, due to our name convention of metadata repositories, is it confusing for users with respect to an artifact repository?
