Re: [orion-dev] Source Code Pro font

FWIW, lots of people seem to be really interested in the new font from Adobe.  I think it is great to see Anton jump on this. If you get to the point of writing a blog post on how Orion can use the font, please share the link and I will help promote it.

Yes. To me it feels almost like one of those old school "OCR enhanced" fonts, rather than something I'd want to use every day.

Sure. But to me it seems like it's solving a problem that most people either don't have or have already gotten over.

Working on frameworks all day makes you grumpy. :-P

I need to research more - but the inclusion of the font ( from Adobe's directions on their site ) necessitates the inclusion of a JS file. This has not been necessary for other web fonts that I've used.

And of course, I forgot to mention that we'd need to licence this font for inclusion in Orion.

I like the font, and I respect Adobe for thinking about a coder's needs. I bet is scales for mobile too. I do notice so far that for me 9pt feels a bit big, 8pt feels a bit small - but still feeling my way with it.

Hi Ian,

Technically it is possible to support that font ( or/and others ). To prove it, I've attached a screenshot of Orion's editor using the source-code-pro font as an experiment.

(See attached file: sourcecodesans.png)

You can see it stand out in the 0, 1, lowercase L and i - I think it is a really nice font for coding ( just my opinion ) and will likely experiment with it in my daily work for a while.

I've added some more notes to this pre-existing bug.

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=386709

I reworked how the editor themes were created and changed in the latest version of Orion and in doing so withdrew some controls on the fonts for now. The intention is to revisit this as we progress - and to see what makes sense with the rapidly changing world of web fonts these days :) It pays to be careful and to test on lots of platforms/browsers with them to make sure it all scales too.

Thanks for the note.

Anton
