The discovery of Log4Shell (CVE-2021-44228) triggered one of the most far-reaching security incidents in the history of open source software. As organizations rushed to assess their exposure, many discovered they could not answer a seemingly simple question: Do our products depend on Log4j?

The incident exposed deep challenges in software supply-chain visibility and vulnerability response, drawing the attention of regulators and helping inspire initiatives such as the European Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).
