Eclipse runs under both JDK 1.4 and 1.5.   Currently Mylar requires you to be running Eclipse in a 1.5 VM, but that definitely does not limit you in what JDK you target.  To develop for 1.4 make sure that you have a 1.4 JRE installed in Eclipse, and set your compliance level to 1.4.  Note that you can also set compliance per-project.

Is Java 5 required only to run Eclipse? Will mylar work if I use Java 5 to run Eclipse, but develop for 1.4.x?
