Actually those kind of questions would be more appropriate in users
news group at news://news.eclipse.org/eclipse.technology.mylar
Answering to your question, you can always Alt-click on any node in
any view foltered by Mylar to temporarily disable filtering on that
node. Then you could click on the resource to increase interest or use
popup menu to make a landmark.

The fact that you've closed editor indicate that you have less
interest in that resource and that is what being reflected in the
interest levels you see in a Package Explorer view. So, just don't close
editors you are working with. after some time you'll get used to that
and you'll like it. :-)
