Re: [mtj-dev] Statement of intent to participate in Eclipse MTJ Project

Hi Alexander,

My apologies for late reply, was real stuck with some work.

List of your contribution is amazing and needed for future. Here is what I would suggest:

1. Pull MTJ - installable_sdk branch to start your work.
2. I would help you to push your changes to the repo.
3. Based on the contribution and further changes, we can think of you as a commiter in future.

Thanks,
Regards

Hi, Pranav,

Oracle is working on new ME 8 platform and I'm engineering manager of Java ME SDK product.
ME 8 will be focused on Java ME Embedded platform support. In scope of this work we are going to contribute following to MTJ plugin:

1. Migration of MTJ to Jetty bundled with Eclipse. This will allow to install MTJ on top of Juno, Kepler and future Eclipse releases. Currently,
MTJ plugin contains outdated Jetty server that conflicts with Jetty server bundled with Eclipse starting from Juno.

2. Update MTJ plugin to correctly support IMP-NG profile. At the moment IMP-NG profile string generated by MTJ plugin for JAD files contains the version number that is incorrect.

3. Support of new CLDC 8 (JSR 360) configuration and new MEEP (JSR 361) profile. Note, that starting from CLDC 8, Java ME will be aligned with JDK 8 (e.g., ME 8 will support such JDK 8 features as generics, autoboxing, etc.). Also, starting from ME 8 there will be no preverification stage during build of Java ME applications.

4. Fixes of bugs in MTJ plugin we observed (some of them we were able to workaround on Java ME SDK plugins side for Eclipse).

5. Later, the contribution scope can be extended.

So, it would be great if you advise me what should we do to start with this contributions.

Thanks,
   Alex.

Hi, I'm Alexander Burdukov in the Java Mobile & Embedded group at Oracle.

Oracle would like to express interest in contributing to the MTJ project by submitting bug fixes and new features.  Oracle will likely have three developers contributing to this effort.  We will initially contribute via patch sets, but hopefully will demonstrate ability and eventually become full Committers.  In particular, we intend to focus on the following:
- Updating support for the the IMP-NG profile.  This should help developers who currently need to make manual modifications of source files.
- Updating MTJ to work better with the Juno, Kepler and future release trains.
- Add features to MTJ to help developers/users leverage Java ME 8 profiles and features.

We hope these contributions will be of benefit to everyone relying on MTJ for their own plugins/sdks/applications.
