I solved the problem by giving my client an ID string.
Seems like the server was rejecting it because of
this...is this possible? And yes, the server setups must
have been different...

From mosquitto.h you can see that the return code 7 is
MOSQ_ERR_CONN_LOST, which means the client thinks the
