Re: [mdt-papyrus.dev] Rg. automated layouting with KIELER

Hi Seb,

wow, this is great news. Would be nice to integrate that functionality seamlessy into Papyrus, wouldn't it?

Hi Marc-Florian,

Yes we know them and we are working with them. They are developing an advanced layout algo specialized for sequence diagrams of Papyrus.

To work with Kieler inside Papyrus, I guess they have develop a dedicated connector.

Chokri, can you please correct if I am wrong?

Cheers… Sébastien.

Hi Papyrus developer,

Don’t know if you aware of the KIELER project (created by University of Kiel, Germany), but it is very powerful with respect to diagram layouting and I highly recommend to have at least a look at it. They have implemented dozens of optimized automated graph layouts. In general, it does work with GMF diagrams, however, the toolbar and menu items were not visible when the Papyrus editor was open. I assume it’ll only be visible if a GMF-based editor is opened.

Here is a link: http://www.informatik.uni-kiel.de/en/rtsys/kieler/

I had a first try with the standalone project and a ecore dialog (non-Papyrus) and it worked fantastically. Papyrus should make use of it and provide it in addition to the proprietary layout algorithm implementation. Since KIELER is based on an abstract representation of a diagram’s layout, it should be somehow possible to combine the Papyrus’ layout concept with the layout produced by KIELER. Just have a look.

Regards,

Marc-Florian
