In this context, the use of "contains" isn't quite correct, since it would imply this entry contains another entry within it, and the author contains another author within it.

Better text use would be "conforms to" - this would also have the right semantic implication, for example:

SHALL contain author (Document Author) [1..1]
i. Conforms to PARTICIPATION Document Author Healthcare Person (templateId: 1.2.36.1.2001.1001.102.101.280:1.0)

The redundant multiplicity isn't needed either as I don't think you can make an association conform to multiple templates in the tooling currently.

I looked around at other HL7 IGs to see examples of how they handle it, but I didn't find any examples since all of them have their template definitions inlined - the ability to point to a template that comes from another model seems to be an MDHT-unique feature. 

Would there be any issues changing generated text for associations that point to templates in another UML model to the proposed text​?
