Objet : Nova Bonita and Nova
Orchestra M3 releases !
Dear community,
On behalf of the Nova Bonita and Nova Orchestra
development teams, I have the pleasure to announce today the next major
Milestone release for those open source projects. Milestone 3 represents a
significant step forward for “Nova” technology including the
stabilization of the common and generic engine leveraged in both projects (the Process
Virtual Machine) as well as advanced features added to both XPDL (Bonita)
and BPEL (Orchestra) extensions.
Milestone 3 is also a perfect example of a successful
collaboration between leading open source communities: Bull, OW2 Consortium and
Jboss/Redhat, working together in PVM core engine, modules and services.
Major improvements added in this milestone release
are:
-
The Process Virtual
Machine: integration of the 1.0.alpha1 release of this generic framework at
both Nova Bonita and Nova Orchestra projects. The PVM has been refactored to
easily fit with process languages extensions requirements. Advanced PVM
services such persistence or timers have been added to this first release.
-
Nova Bonita:
native XPDL support based on the PVM xml parsing utilities and a generic
mechanism to handle activities extensions, Workflow API’s separation
between deployment, definition, running and history data, advanced operations
such suspend and resume for manual activities, reworked activity life cycle
between activities and tasks or support for both standard (JSE) and enterprise
(JEE) environments…

description of features coming with this M3 please visit Nova Bonita releases
notes
-
Nova Orchestra:
added support for asynchronous BPEL statements based on the PVM timer service:
pick and wait, sequential mode support for ForEach BPEL statement, persistent
vs in memory modes execution (based on the PVM persistence framework, hibernate
as default implementation), basic BPEL static analysis…

is available to download at the OW2 forge together with the M3 versions (Nova
Orchestra and Nova Bonita
downloads)
Following our Open Source collaboration spirit, next
Milestone (M4) will come with a new BPM graphical console for Nova Bonita and
Nova Orchestra. This console will be based on the ultimate version of the eXo
Platform open source project. Together with this console we will continue to
leverage the integration we did in the past between Bonita and eXo ECM.
Note that as eXo is based on portlets, so the BPM
Console will easily allow to add your favourite portlets or new features on
top.
The BPM console will provide deployment, execution and
monitoring BPM capabilities. It could be deployed individually or in common
with Nova Bonita and/or Nova Orchestra projects. Could you imagine a Web 2.0
generic and customizable console for easily handle XPDL and/or BPEL processes?
Stay tuned, next M4 will be released soon !
Best regards,
Miguel Valdes
