Re: [jwt-dev] Committer vote for Mickael Istria has been approved by the PMC

Hi all

Well, seems I still don't have the eclipse habits right :)

I wanted to have Mickael first prove himself useful to the community by submitting some work (translation). But I also should have mentioned his qualifications.

First he is a student of the renowned (its labs got the Turing Prize this year) ENSIMAG mathematics french computer science school, where I also am from and where I met him when doing some conferencing there (coincidentally I also worked six months earlier with a close friend of his on an RIA - document management project). But he also is a fierce proponent of Open Source (he submitted patches to DirectFB for example) and is a passionate advocate of "lean" development practices (and an admirator of Kent Beck and Martin Fowler) and the right architecture for the right problem. Finally on the personal side I'll submit the opinion he's somebody I like very much working with ^^

I believe he is the right person for tackling the issues of our new SOA and interoperability features, because of the heavy architecture undertones. For example, there is the matter of "slicing" well between generic runtime APIs (ex. something like a "WorkflowService") that might be called to manage workflow services from eclipse, and some more specific layers of implementations (SCA definitions, Tuscany and SCOrWare middleware, Bonita workflow server . Actually I wanted an "new eye" on these issues - and now I have it - but if I merely ended up committing myself his work I would somehow end up retooling it my way, so that's why I wanted him to be a committer.

The only excuse I got is that I've seen him work everyday since he's arrived at Open Wide and that I was frustrated his work was not visible to other members !

technology.jwt Committers,
This automatically generated message marks the PMC's approval of the vote
for Mickael Istria's full Committer status on the technology.jwt project.
The next step is for the project lead to return to the portal and fill in
the CVS package and employer information for Mickael Istria.

The PMC's comments were: I'm not entirely happy with this nomination
because it appears to be of the "Mickael has been hired by us, so give him
committer rights" - something that is explicitly not allowed under the
Eclipse Development Process. I will assume that M. Istria has more
qualifications than just an internship (thus I will approve this election)
but those qualifications should have been listed in the nomination.

Also, note that committer status is not an entitlement of employment and,
vice versa, committer status continues beyond employment. Thus by electing
M. Istria to committer status, you are conferring that status for as long
as he wants to be a committer - even after he completes his intership.

- Bjorn

P.S. Note that my uncertainity over this election is no reflection on M.
Istria. To Mickael, I say "welcome to JWT".
