FWIW, this is now fixed as of commit
4522b07d0f78174d632a3159a553f1e4c78c8408.  Existing loose objects may
be corrupted and may need to be removed from the repository.
Unfortunately the bug was JGit was creating corrupt loose objects when
it unpacked a large delta.
