Re: [january-dev] [eavp-dev] Version number change

Jonah,

We do plan to follow that. The 2.1.8 is a relic from ICE. I was going to make it 2.2 like the ICE release, but I got cold feet at the last minute and decided to back it way down. I would be a little embarrassed to claim that EAVP is that mature in a general context.

From here out we'll increment EAVP similar to how the Tycho guys do it because I see a long road to what would reasonably be a 1.0 release for a standalone viz tool.

Hope that helps!

Jay

Hi Robert,

I notice that the plug-ins on next are currently 2.18 (as opposed to 0.1.0 or 1.0.0). Is this intentional? Does EAVP plan to use Eclipse Semantic Versioning rules for plug-ins? https://wiki.eclipse.org/Version_Numbering

January would like to use semantic versioning, and following a first release, I expect to have API baselines in place to ensure API compatibility.

Thoughts?
Jonah

Robert,

I think it needs to be 0.1.0 for this release. That's what I put on the paperwork.

All,

Let me append that slightly. We'll be switching to 0.1.1, as the letters in the version number were causing problems with the build. Either way, this will still cause problems for the build when you update, so be on the look out for that.

All,

EAVP's version number is soon to be changed to 0.1-RC1 to denote its status as the first release candidate.
