Below, please see the available
public budget tracing, while we wait for openness:
·
Steering
Minutes - July 31st, 2018 The EF proposed to the Jakarta EE Working Group a USD
2,455,000 per year.
·
A 3-year Membership commitment was required while the budget was being forged.
·
It was agreed that the 2018 cost were USD 0 Steering
Minutes for Sept. 11th, 2018
·
The budget vote was not unanimous. In Jakarta EE WG, a veto vote is not possible.
Those of us involved in the conversations worked tirelessly on the budget via excel sheet, that is in 1 of the minutes either Marketing or steering but
I cannot recall which meeting as I was one of the Jakartees, heavily prioritizing cutting the proposed budget.
I
believe that the ecosystem community can accomplish work. Lower fees are beneficial to the entire ecosystem and its vibrant future. I hope that when conversations about the fees/budget starting in 2021, marks the ending the 3year membership agreement
on December 31st, 2021, THAT THIS Community, Participant Members, contributors, committers, anyone who cares about Jakarta EE and is interested in contributing
is in the room participating on the 2022 onward budget discussions.
I believe that when everyone understands that the success of Jakarta EE is not and must not be focused on its budget but in its community involvement, we
will all be better contributors to the project.
The #ossDOERs (within the companies currently investing so much time, resources, money -the WG fees and the independent Jakartees) are the ones the single
most important not replaceable variable who must be. Contributors from all cultures, globally located, with diverse expertise are the ONES who can help create, decommission, dream, and sustain the code and documentation and simplify Jakarta EE.
With this, I personally thank you, Michael, for caring to ask for transparency via this forum. For protecting your resources money and people while your
company helps Jakarta EE move forward with its rebranding into open source.
