[jakarta.ee-spec.committee] Please discuss and update the program plan recommendations for 2026

Hi there,

I'm sorry, I won't be able to attend the Specification Committee meeting for Oct 15. Dmitry Kornilov will attend and has my proxy for this meeting.

The working group is required to put a plan together for each calendar year and Eclipse requests that this plan be completed by November 1, each year. The steering committee has recommended the following plan:

  • Collect plan input for initial steering committee review on Oct 21
  • Refine and finalize the initial plan for adoption at the steering committee scheduled for Nov. 3.

I would like to request that the Specification committee please review take some time to review the goals and activities that we had set for 2025, and consider how we should be generating our proposals for work plans for 2026. I suspect that many, maybe all of the top-level goals will simply be carried over. However, there may be new goals that members would like to raise for consideration.

For the '25 plan, the strategic goals are:

  • Deliver future Jakarta EE Specification Releases
  • Increase Jakarta EE Brand Awareness and Adoption
  • Grow Contributors and Reward committers
  • Grow Working Group Membership

The Specification Committee has input into the EE Specification Releases. I will separately ask the current Platform Committer leads to revise the detail points for EE 12 (these are included on slide 6 and tracked on slide 7). I don't know if the Specification Committee wants to inject or comment on any of our other goals, but now is the opportunity to provide that input.

I suggested, to the Steering Committee that it consider adoption of a goal around merging the Jakarta EE and MicroProfile working groups. Current recommendation is something like:

  • Collaborate with MicroProfile WG to facilitate a move to Jakarta EE Working Group

I'm sorry that we need to perform this on such a compressed schedule but I hope that the Specification committee can propose the top-level goal / working-points so that we can complete this proposal and adopt it at the first Steering Committee meeting of November.

I would appreciate it if someone would please provide a summary of the recommendations from the Specification committee so that we can incorporate it into our proposed 2026 program. Please let me know, however the committee wishes to finalize their input.
