Re: [jakarta.ee-spec.committee] [jakarta.ee-steering] Website contributions for jakarta.ee

Some updates, such as those in your list, are probably well within the capabilities of developers, and in that case I agree it would be better for them to submit PRs instead of issues.  Whatever you can do to motivate, encourage, and train them to do that would be helpful.

As long as we're still allowed to file issues for updates of greater complexity, I think we're ok.

Thanks!

Hi Bill,

thanks for raising the question!

You are correct overall vision and design of the jakarta.ee will be done mainly by people in the Eclipse Foundation and with input from the community. What was being asked is to for example  if we want to add additional documents to https://jakarta.ee/committees/specification/ page to create a pull request instead of an issue. Another example is publishing of the meeting minutes for various meetings. Once the PR is created it will be reviewed by our web-dev team to ensure it is done as expected before it get merged.

Issues are still welcome, but take more time to address, so for fast turn around PRs are preferable.

Hope this helps!

Best,

Tanja

I'm not aware of recent discussions around this site so maybe I'm missing some important background.

So, basically, we all need to be web designers for this site.  There's no one at Eclipse who can take a request for improvements to the site and design and implement the improvements.  Is there at least someone with an overall vision for the site who can provide feedback on the PRs so ensure that the site retains some sort of consistency?

Note that the page you refer to below still suggests that we should open new issues.

Maybe the other teams are in better shape, but I'm not sure we have anyone on the Oracle team with significant web design experience who could maintain this site.  If you've seen most of our GitHub Pages, they leave something to be desired.  That's the sort of updates you would be likely to get from us for this site.  Fortunately, I know that some of the other teams have members with more web design experience, so hopefully they'll be able to fill this gap.

Hello all,

per recent discussions regarding the need to continuously add / change jakarta.ee website, we have have received a request from our web development team to always submit Pull Requests instead of issues.

As most people are developers on our committees I am sure this is not going to be too much of a problem. How to Get Started and contribute is documented on the

https://github.com/jakartaee/jakarta.ee

If any questions or need for a short training session on this, please let me know.

Many thanks for your contributions!

Best,
Tanja
