I don’t think we should. In open source communities it isn’t uncommon to have binding and non-binding voters. I know this isn’t technically an open source project, but I don’t think that is important and going out and saying “don’t bother voting it doesn’t count” risks sending a bad message to the wider community. Especially over a +1.
Reza has already been posting it Java EE guardians with an us and them rhetoric positioning vendors and the community as separate and at odds and I think pointing this out would give wood to his fire. One of the goals here should be wider community involvement so I think we just need to deal with counting votes and ignoring “non-binding” ones.
If I hadn’t been subscribed to this list when the vote thread was discussed I’d probably have done the same thing, likely causing more confusion since I work for IBM. Alasdair Nottingham
So you don't think there's any point in us telling them that they're
wasting their time and ours?

Bill,
I think we
have
to ignore them. We are posting the ballots to the public list.
Wayne
has outlined who should be voting and who this email is
targeting, but
some people will vote no matter what. This isn't the first time
that
we've gotten random votes.

And why does he think he should
be
voting on our specifications?
Assuming he's just a random community member, should we be
encouraging
such
people to vote? Discouraging? Don't care, just ignore?
