[jakarta.ee-spec.committee] JCP Members

In the JCP there are four types of Members: Associate, Contributor, Partner, and Full.

Partner Members are for JUGs that are not legal entities; therefore they cannot sign the JSPA. This membership allows them to promote and participate in the activities of the JCP. They are required to sign a Partnership Agreement.

JUGs that are legal entities are encouraged to sign the JSPA and become Full Members.

Organizations cannot be Associate Members. An Associate Member is an individual who wants to participate in activities of the JCP without requiring an employer’s permission. They must sign an Associate Member Agreement, which involves only a personal IP commitment. Associate Members cannot join an Expert Group, but Spec Leads can list an Associate Member as a Contributor to a JSR.

(A Contributor is someone who is not a member of an Expert Group, but who the Spec Lead recognizes as having contributed to the JSR.)

Full Members are primarily organizations that are legal entities, self-employed individuals, and unemployed individuals that sign the JSPA. If an employed individual wants to be a Full Member, their employer must sign an Employer Contribution Agreement, in which the employer makes IP commitments regarding the employee’s participation in JCP activities.
