Re: [jakarta.ee-spec.committee] Jakarta EE 8 certification goal

I agree with David (despite having gone down a few rabbit holes myself) that our first order of business is determine the most expediant method of aligning Jakarta EE 8 with Java EE 8 in both specification and certification.

Would it be possible to simply create a one page Jakarta EE 8 spec that says Jakarta EE 8 products have to conform to the Java EE 8 Specification and than use the existing TCK to test and certify?  I’m not clear on the legal aspects of that but if that is possible we could actually knock out Jakarata EE 8 quickly and move on to all the other decisions needed before embarking on Jakarta EE 9.

So, to be clear, we simply reference the Java EE 8 specification and all the constituent specifications and than allow vendors to test the assertion that they comply with Java EE 8 using the TCK tests (after Oracle donates them).   If a vendor passes the TCK they are awarded the Jakarta EE 9 certification (or whatever you call it).

Overall, I'm wondering if we should focus just on the portions of the specification process we need to get the Jakarta EE 8 specifications and tck out the door and allow for certification.

We have the TCKs showing up shortly and if I recall Ed's roadmap, they'll be in hand by end of July.  I know myself well and if we're writing down definitions of what Jakarta EE is technically or where it should go, I will definitely be contributing to us *not* achieving a Jakarta EE 8 release.

If we can get off the ground by setting a date for Jakarta EE 8 TCK release and certification process, that might help us move quicker overall.  We could potentially agree to get this part done and table "what is Jakarta EE" and "how to introduce change" topics for after.

The doc is not strictly related to the Jakarta EE 8 goal.  I simply used writing things down as a way to focus some of my own thoughts.  We're welcome to do whatever we'd like with it including throwing it away.  It is editable by anyone as is the directory in case others wanted to write something similar.

Ignoring my doc, what do people think about the idea of rallying around the processes required to release Jakarta EE 8 including setting a deadline to work against?
